FaceLoveFacial Plastic Surgery

Notes

Is 87 too old for a facelift?

People ask whether they have left it too late far more often than they ask whether they are too young. The premise is usually wrong.

Chronological age is not the test

What determines candidacy is health: cardiovascular fitness, whether conditions like hypertension or diabetes are well controlled, what medications you take, whether you smoke, and how you have tolerated anesthesia before.

A well patient in their eighties can be a considerably better surgical candidate than a poorly controlled patient in their fifties. That assessment is made with your physician, not from a birth date.

What changes with age is the plan

Older skin has different elasticity and often more volume loss, which affects technique and what a realistic result looks like. It does not, by itself, rule out surgery.

The honest conversation is about what the operation can and cannot deliver for your particular face, and whether the recovery is something you want to undertake. Some people decide it is not. That is a legitimate answer, and it is a different answer from being told you are too old.

Ask me the rest in person.

Reading is a start. What matters for your face is what I can see when you are sitting in front of me.
