Bulletproof coffee (almost)…

I get up early.  Some might say real early.  But I don’t have breakfast right away.  Instead I drink my version of “bulletproof” coffee, especially if I’m going to work out, play tennis, or do yoga.

The idea behind bulletproof coffee (literally butter and other fats mixed into your morning joe) is that your body is already in fasting, fat-burning mode after a decent night’s rest, so feeding your body the right fats in the morning will rev up your fat metabolism so that you can continue to enjoy the effects of that fat-burning mode throughout the morning.  

While I’m not trying to lose weight, trimming body fat is one of the touted benefits, as well as supplying your brain with the best source of energy.  Plus coffee prepared this way gives your body a sustained energy boost, without filling or bloating your stomach before a workout.

Although I no longer use butter, for me, a teaspoon of coconut oil, a teaspoon of red palm oil, and a teaspoon of MCT oil in my cup of organic fair-trade coffee does the trick.
