Master Debater…

I saw a report last night on NBC Nightly News about middle schoolers’ concern for the candidates in our upcoming presidential election.  Generally speaking, they believe one candidate mistreats women, bullies, and acts like a child, while the other has been less-than-honest and forthcoming on issues possibly involving national security.  Neither candidate, to them, is ideal, but they realize the ideas and policies created or enforced by the incoming president will affect their futures.

Of course, in my estimation, the debates last night didn’t seem to alleviate any fears.  The choice will have to be between the lesser of two evils, depending on what you believe to be “evil.”

Whitney Houston sang, “I believe the children are our future; teach them well and let them lead the way.”  (Of course, Eddie Murphy,  in his band Sexual Chocolate in the movie Coming to America, had a funny take on this).  But the report last night seemed to bring this point home.

Let’s do our best to lead and behave well for children and young adults; they are exposed to a lot of information and examples of bad behavior (which seems to be rewarded with increased exposure and media coverage) and may need to understand and have questions answered about what is absolutely good and true.
